Media Advisory – Senate Hearing to Explore Turnaround Models in Under-performing Schools

HARRISBURG (May 11, 2015) – The Senate Education Committee will hold a hearing featuring nationally renowned speakers to evaluate Senate Bill 6, sponsored by Sen. Lloyd Smucker (R-Lancaster), Chairman of the Senate Education Committee.

Known as the Educational Opportunity and Accountability Act, Senate Bill 6 will give additional tools to schools who fail to meet performance goals year after year. The proposed model has met with success in other states, including Tennessee and Massachusetts. A list of testifiers is included below.
